How to Maintain Cigar Humidors

Cigar humidors are essential in keeping your cigars fresh and tasting great indefinitely. A cigar is made from tobacco which is grown in other countries that are located in tropical places and other equatorial regions. This is why it is normal to see such country names as Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Cuba and Nicaragua printed on the label of the product. They are the best tasting tobaccos in the world because they have the perfect conditions for creating a perfect cigar. But once they are exported to other countries in which the weather is not as accommodating, the quality has a tendency to degrade. Countries where they are exported to usually do not have the humidity to keep the moisture level on the tobacco perfectly. Hence cigars do not mature to their full taste.

Cigar humidors have the controlled environment that will allow proper maturing of cigars. A humidor is usually made from wood, which is great for keeping moisture. With the help of a cigar humidifier which is placed inside the box, the right humidity is maintained which in turn preserves the flavor of your cigar. If you just purchased your first cigar humidor though and it is your first time to use it, never place your favorite cigar in it right away. This is because the humidor still does not have the correct moisture level for your cigars. If is brand new, what it will do is to suck out the moisture that is already in the cigar, thereby ruining its taste.

To have the correct moisture inside the humidor, spray some distilled water into it periodically. You may also use a humidification solution made from distilled water and propylene glycol. The correct frequency of squirting distilled water or humidification solution in cigar humidors is once every month but it could actually depend on how frequently you use your humidor.
